A luxury hotel with a spa area is an oasis of calm, offering relaxing massages and service of the highest class. Yet on moving to the hotel bar, guests reach reflexively for their smartphones and sink into digital isolation. In the premium segment, where a client expects a holistic experience, a drink and a soft armchair alone are not enough. Luxury properties are changing the paradigm: they design spaces so as to stimulate genuine closeness discreetly.

Why do we escape into screens on holiday?

During shared trips a smartphone can easily take over the attention that might have gone to conversation and to really living the moment. Research on direct interactions shows that even the presence of a phone can weaken the sense of closeness and lower the quality of conversation. When there is no energy or impulse to begin a deeper exchange of thoughts, a bright screen becomes the simplest way to fill the silence.

This habit unwittingly draws guests into the destructive phenomenon of continuous partial attention. They are in beautiful surroundings, but their minds remain scattered. Counting on the decor alone to solve the problem is a trap. If a hotel supplies no physical impulse to interaction, invisible walls in marriage grow easily.

The discreet host of the evening

The answer to this problem is bringing the Odoardo Alibi™ brand into lounge areas. A massive box made of solid oak rests on the tables in the hotel bar. Its purist form, closed with invisible magnets, invites exploration.

Its interior holds 50 deep questions for your partner. For couples this set becomes a physical alibi for deep conversations, lifting the pressure of opening difficult subjects. It is the black card that takes the host's role, carrying the conversation beyond small talk and easing a relationship crisis after years together. A similar role in raising how a stay is judged is played by the details described in the piece How to raise hotel guest NPS.

A ritual that occupies the hands

Interaction with Odoardo Alibi™ engages the senses in an analog way. Cards made of black paper with 3D gilding have a weight and a texture a screen does not. Our own mechanism of matching abstract illustrations removes the need to rationalize every word, making clear the meaning of silence and image in communication. Such an evening ritual sets active listening in a relationship going and raises the chance that a stay will be remembered as a time of emotional renewal.

The architecture of quiet luxury experiences

Designing an area in which guests will set their phones aside requires working with details. On the role of design and of cutting oneself off from noise, the creator of the Odoardo™ ecosystem says:

“Real luxury in architecture today means designing spaces in which highly advanced technology serves quiet rather than distraction. By yielding the foreground to noble craft and analog matter, we let the human mind shed its tension and focus fully on building closeness between people.”

For a lounge to become a sanctuary of quiet luxury, its coherence has to be seen to. An excellent background for a solid oak box is subscribed art in wooden frames from the Odoardo Art™ brand, while screenless handling of orders is provided by Odoardo Soul™, described in the piece Animated space in five-star hotels. In surroundings designed this way, Odoardo Alibi™ becomes the heart of rituals for couples.

The properties that work consistently on such a guest experience we gather in Odoardo™ research. Why we believe a hotel sells attention rather than square meters, we explain in the manifesto.
